Residential conveyancing is the process by which flats and houses are legally transferred between a seller and a buyer. The conveyancing process does not include issues relating to housing or planning and environmental issues.

A conveyancing solicitor will:
- check the title to the property
- liaise with your lender or financial adviser about mortgages
- Draw up contracts for the sale/purchase
- Make sure that you are satisfied with the terms of the contract and advise you accordingly

A Home Information Pack (HIP) is compulsory for most homes put on the market in England and Wales. The HIP is a set of documents that gives the potential buyer key information on the property and the HIP must be provided by the seller or the seller's agents. It is a legal requirement to have a HIP but it is an additional cost for the seller. Most conveyancing solicitors and other conveyancers offer a HIPs service at a fixed cost.

Commercial conveyancing is the process by which interests in commercial property are created and transferred.
