Totting up
Under the totting up provisions a driver can be disqualified where he/she accumulates 12 penalty points within a three year period. Reaching 12 penalty points within the 3 year period (bear in mind it is the date of the offences and NOT the date of the hearings which is relevant), leads to disqualification for a minimum period of 6 months. When you get the licence back your points are removed.
To avoid a ban for totting up you will need to be able to convince the court that there are "mitigating circumstances" and that a ban would cause exceptional hardship, i.e. loss of job, loss of employment for others dependant on you, hardship to members of your family.

Jeanette was recently dubbed as "Miss Justice" for her work in fighting against law changes that will greatly affect innocent motorists, and her e-petition attracted almost 22,000 signatures and has resulted in an Early Day Motion being tabled in Parliament. Following her campaign, the Law Society launched legal proceedings against the government the outcome of which is still awaited at the beginning of 2010.
